Why This Reference Exists
Printed Guilford directories became scattered, while the records behind them stayed with separate custodians. Ownership evidence is held by the Guilford Assessor and Town Clerk. Current registration is handled through Connecticut's voter system. Historical volumes, tax lists, census film, newspapers, and photographs are concentrated in the EBN Historical Room, with state-library and archive routes filling older gaps. The result is a set of practical pointers for matching a question to the right Guilford record source.
What These Pages Point To
- Different search angles: the street directory for address-keyed records, the city directory collections for earlier years, and the resident lookup path for one-person questions
- Named custodians: the Guilford Assessor, Town Clerk, Registrar, Judicial Branch, DPH, Probate Court, EBN Historical Room, and State Archives
- Research methods: parcel and deed trails, directory entry reading, census pairing, newspaper checks, and house-history requests
- Access boundaries: what Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act opens, what remains confidential, and when a counter, clerk, library, or written request is needed
What the Reference Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference site, not a Guilford office, New Haven County department, Connecticut agency, court, or library. It cannot:
- Confirm that a specific person currently lives in Guilford
- Pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- Add anyone to, or remove anyone from, a roll or database
- Give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- Promise that every link, coverage date, or office detail remains current
Only the custodian can confirm, certify, or correct a record. This reference is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and nothing found here may be used for credit, employment, tenant screening, insurance, or another FCRA-regulated purpose. Use public information lawfully and never to stalk, harass, or harm another person.
